I realised that although I am a hobby beekeeper with approximately eight hives I was having to extract and manually uncap over 160 frames in an average year. Many of the rapid uncappers available can speed up the operation but they are both expensive and take up a lot of space for the majority of the year. I have built a low-cost roller-based uncapper which can rapidly uncap British National frames, both shallow and deep, in a simple operation. Driven by economy, simplicity and size I have used a local business to make the mounting box using recycled material and the food safe mechanical parts and cappings collection box are all from UK manufacturers and suppliers. The unit is put together with two bolts and it is a two-minute job to dismantle it for cleaning and the roller assembly is dishwasher safe after an initial cold water wash.
