Beekeeping for Beginners' Course 2026
Interested in knowing more about the fascinating world of the honey bee? Based in Shepton Mallet and starting in March 2026, our Beginners' Course will introduce you to the world of beekeeping in an interesting and interactive way. The course is suitable for anyone, not just potential beekeepers, who wants to learn more about the honey bee. Over four evening theory sessions and three daytime apiary-based sessions, you will be introduced to the ancient craft of beekeeping. You will gain an understanding of honey bee behaviour and learn how beekeepers work with their bees to provide them with the optimum environment for them to flourish.
The cost of £50 for the whole course includes all safety equipment, refreshments and associate membership of Central Branch SBKA for the year.

- Understanding what you can see
- Assembling Frames and Hives
- Making increase (e.g a nucleus hive)
- Swarm prevention & control
- Queen Marking
- Clearing the Supers
- Honey extraction
- Feeding & Treating
